BreatheWorks specialize in addressing Temporomandibular symmetry through balanced oral, facial, head, neck, and core muscles. We focus on the alignment of the tongue, lips, jaw, pharynx, optimal respiration, and head and neck muscles in conjunction with re-educating core body posture. Our whole-patient training and exercises enhance optimal mobility, range of motion, symmetry, strength, and coordination. Treatment of TMD can alleviate jaw pain and discomfort and improve the functionality of the jaw, making activities like chewing and speaking enjoyable and pain free. The BreatheWorks interdisciplinary care model for TMD works. We know that whole-patient care supports better overall head, neck, and jaw function, which is critical to achieving and maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Got Questions?
We’ve got answers!
Signs of TMJ disorders, known as temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), include jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds in the jaw, difficulty opening or closing the mouth, headaches, and difficulty chewing. BreatheWorks’ approach to treatment starts with reducing pain and tension through targeted exercises and manual therapy techniques. Our therapy focuses on balancing the function of muscles in posture, breathing, oral rest posture, speaking, chewing, and swallowing. Treatment may involve exercises, relaxation techniques, and in some cases, dental or orthodontic interventions to achieve a balanced and functional orofacial system.
Each insurance plan is unique, but generally, our treatment will fall under your speech therapy benefits. After you schedule your initial appointment, we will run a verification of benefits to determine if your coverage is active, including details about your co-pay, co-insurance, and deductible. We are eager to share this information with you upon request. Please contact our scheduling team for assistance, and we always recommend you also check your benefits for complete understanding.

Orofacial myofunctional
disorders (OMD)
OMD are the result of abnormal muscle patterns in the mouth and throat, impacting essential functions such as speech, sleep, swallowing, and breathing. These disorders often stem from various factors including genetics, childhood habits (e.g., thumb-sucking), tongue-tie, or allergies. Symptoms include challenges in speech, swallowing difficulties, TMJ issues, mouth breathing, and open mouth posture (which can affect facial development negatively). OMD may influence digestion, speech, behavior, and even lead to choking or aspiration. BreatheWorks' interdisciplinary therapy focuses on re-training muscles, fostering symmetry, and enhancing oropharyngeal function. Our comprehensive hands-on approach is effective, as early identification and treatment of OMD can prevent more severe issues in adulthood.
